“The gold mine, located 90 kilometers east of Sanandaj [the capital city of Kurdestan Province], became operational in January 2016 with an initial investment of $78 million. It has created 1,000 jobs, 128 of which are performed by foreigners. Non-native workers account for 10% of the total jobs and the rest are carried out by the local workforce," Mehdi Moradi was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
He noted that Kurdestan Industries, Mining and Trade Organization aims to produce gold ingot under its exclusive world standard brand.
Noting that the total output of Sari Gunay Mine to date amounts to 9 ton of pure gold and 4 tons of silver, Moradi added that the mine’s gold output stood at 2,250 kg in the fiscal 2016-17 and about 3,100 kg in the fiscal 2017-18, Financial Tribune reported.
“Sari Gunay Gold Mine paid about 199 billion rials ($1.43 million) in mining royalties to the government in the fiscal 2017-18,” he said.
